I like Almost Famous Triple Action Bronzer. It's the only tanning lotion I have actually bought a bottle of instead of just the tester shot thing. Hope that helps!

Is it customary to give tips in hair salons here in Singapore? How much?

I'm going to have my hair cut in Singapore the first time in a high end salon. I read before that tipping in Singapore is not the norm, but I'm not sure if that's also true for hair salons (especially Passion). Should I give tip to the ';leading stylist';? How about the person who shampooed/dry my hair? If yes, how much should I give? Is it based on percentage?

Thanks. Is it customary to give tips in hair salons here in Singapore? How much?
i'm not sure about singapore, but in hong kong, the norm is to tip yout stylist 10-15%, your shampoo person $2, and the leading stylist or the owner doesn't get a tip (unless they do your hair). i hope this helps!!!

It's the pink lotion they use. I love that stuff and would kill to have some at home. Thanks!Where can I get the lotion Professional nail salons use when giving a Mani/Pedi?

How come only Chinese women work at nail salons?

Does anyone know the answer to this?? Anytime I go into a nail salon, all the employees are Chinese. Why is this?Does it have something to do with Chinese culture? How come only Chinese women work at nail salons?
    stereotype much?

ive seen white, black, and asian..even hispanic women working in nail shops. How come only Chinese women work at nail salons?
It's definitely more Vietnamese than Chinese, but if you aren't asian I understand why you wouldn't recognize the difference.

Lots of beauty schools and trade schools offer programs for international students who move to the US.

As far as culture goes, when one family member starts a business or does well at a company they do tend to bring in mostly family members to work there. As one of my Vietnamese clients told me ';You don't have to pay family';. It keeps costs down and keeps the wealth within the family. Something us greedy self-serving Americans might not understand
I don't want to sound stereotypical, but I am not saying anything degrading so i hope I don't offend anyone. But usually they are good at small, intricate details and art, and it pays good and you don't have to speak much Englsih to do that line of work.
    there not chinese

    their usually vietnamese.

my mom owns a nail salon.

i dont kno why. it doesnt have to do with vietnamese culture.

and they usually hire family and friends.
Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean or others.

With little education or little english or other reasons. Easy to learn and good money. This is the only way for them to make proper money, then having low income.
they are naturally good at it. and its realllllyyyy good money lol. besides the owner is usually asian and has other relatives/friends that r employees
because they are good at it and if the owner of the salon is chinese they will probably only hire chinese people
    thats not true hun...

What is the difference between regular salons & aveda salons?

Do they have more experience with haircuts or with more schooling with hair cutting?

thanks for any help! What is the difference between regular salons %26amp; aveda salons?
Its similar to a supercuts and a normal barber/salon. They have the same amount of schooling. They are just trained at Aveda to do things a certain way and use Aveda products. Also they are generally more expensive as the company takes a cut of the profitWhat is the difference between regular salons %26amp; aveda salons?
just the brand name of the salon really

they seem more professional but if it is a business then they should all have experience you know but aveda seems pretty cool.

HI! You have to go to Jacques Dessange Salon and make an appointment with Fabrisio. Note, this salon is expensive but what can you expect from an international renowned salon. The service is amazing and this is definitely a high-end expert salon, headquartered in France. It is not too far from Coral Springs. I believe it is a little bit south but well worth the trip. I do not have the contact information with me, but I am sure you can google it or find it in the yellow pages.

How do I know what salons offer brazillian waxing?

I have never tried one before...instead of calling all of the salons to ask, is there a better way to know? How do I know what salons offer brazillian waxing?
If you are in most states...True Brazillian wax is against health codes. A reputable salon will not perform, but rather ';groom'; you, rather than clean you naked. How do I know what salons offer brazillian waxing?
Hmm. Just pick a few of your favorite salons and call and ask. No one said you had to call all the salons in your area, just pick like 4 and call them.
Frankly, almost all salons these days offer brazilian waxing. There's really no need to ask. Just make an appointment.

How can you do your nails like they do in the nail salons?

I wanna get my nails done like a full acrylic set %26amp; the airbrush but down here thats so expensive could i do it homemade? %26amp; how?How can you do your nails like they do in the nail salons?
You can learn to do this at home, but keep in mind that you will have to invest in the right equipment and supplies, and you will have to practise a lot. Also, it is really hard for most people to apply nails with their non-dominant hand, and will be especially hard to do airbrushing designs with your non-dominant hand and have them look the same as your other hand. I don't think that it's very common, even for professional nail technicians, to apply their own nails very often. How can you do your nails like they do in the nail salons?
You can if you got the skills and the right equipment. Search it on http://www.google.com
Check out a beauty supply store in your area for supplies.

You can also locate a local Beauty College, because they'll do nails for less than an ordinary salon.

How to contact high end salons for jobs?

My passion is hair and I want to get my foot in a high end...Sexy hair preferred. How can i contact salon's for internships? How to contact high end salons for jobs?
I think before you can do that you need to go to school first so you can have a certificate. Its great that you want to start at the top but I think school would be a foot in the door. High end places are not going to train you. They will want you to have experience and a portfolio of what you have done. People that go to those place don't want a trainee touching their hair.

What brand of nail polish do they use at the prefessional salons?

I went into a salon the other day to get my hair done and noticed them doing a girls nails. Loving doing nails myself I stuck around and watched and notice how great it looked and how it was almost shiny and; if this is describing it right; thick but thin? haha, like, it layered on perfect but wasn't sticky. can someone tell me a brand/s they use? What brand of nail polish do they use at the prefessional salons?
Depends on what salon and its Quality:

    Really Good One: Este Lauder

    Good One: O鈥鈥

    Average One: Sally Hansens

    Crappy One: NYC

Plus they put a clear shiny coat of some other Nail Polish over it.What brand of nail polish do they use at the prefessional salons?
Usually at the salons they have a counter where you can buy some of their products they use such as nail polish.

The best nail polish (salon nail polish) I've used is O.P.I.

It does't go on thickly and they have a wide range of colors.

  • Why do a lot of the women who do waxes at salons have heavy accents?

A friend of mine is opening up a salon which offers wax services like a brazilian wax, and she said she is going to fake a thick European accent so her clients will think she's a real professional and good at what she does. I laughed but she has a point-- a lot of the women in that job field do have accents. Gotta love them! Why do a lot of the women who do waxes at salons have heavy accents?
originally, Americans didn't wax so it originated in other countries. like the Brazilian wax, for exampleWhy do a lot of the women who do waxes at salons have heavy accents?
Typically speaking immigrants need a shorter school term/ training and lesser English requirements..hence the reason they often seek esthecian (sp) training. It usually less than 6 months start to finish.
I think that if she goes with her normal accent it could be an advantage. I am an all American Cali girl and I do waxing. I have a great clientele, because I'm fun and can relate to them. also acting like some weird fake foreigner may make some clients uncomfortable. she'll never get a good clientele without being herself

Where can i buy the shampoo that they use in salons?

You know how they have those one-gallon things of shampoo with a pump on the top, and it smells a bit like coconut? Is there somewhere i can buy that?Where can i buy the shampoo that they use in salons?
The next time you go to your salon, ask your stylist which shampoo is used on your hair. Most likely, the salon will sell it in the products section--or someone there will be able to tell you how to find it somewhere else.

Beyond that, I'm not sure how to help you as a lot of shampoos smell like coconut.

Good luck!Where can i buy the shampoo that they use in salons?
Beauty supply shops are good, but many don't allow non-hairdressers to buy certain items (it all depends on where you live). Also, the hairdresser him/herself should be able to sell you a smaller bottle of the same stuff.
different salons use different shampoo. while you get your hair done, ask them.
Ask your stylist what shampoo it is, they will sell it there, just not in the gallon tubs, those are what we call professional sizes and you can only get them if you are a liscenced cosmetologist.

The largest size they will most likely sell are one liter bottles.
    from that salon
I buy mine from my stylist.
    At the salon
i think that you got to go to the salon and buy it from them. thats the only way i know.
we have a place in Texas called ULTA, also Sally's beauty salon.

Dont know if you have that where you are.

    Sally's.
Try ebay. I have seem them there. Ulta like someone recommended is kind of expensive. Or if you know of someone that has a cosmetology license and could take you there.
At the salon or a beauty store
Just ask the salon shampoo staff or manager. They may have the shampoo for retail sale in retail sizes. If not, and you want something specifically with coconut, try Kiels. If you cannot find it in your immediate neighborhood, I would suggest trying

www.bloomingdale's.com or going to Kiel's web-site. I cannot imagine that they do not have one.
there is a salon called salon bamboo and they selll aveda and there are aveda stores in most malls

I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring braiders?

I have been making micro corn rows, twists, rasta-twists and micro individual braids for 10 years. I see people including celebrities on T.V every day with poorly braided hair and it just grieves my styling instincts. I braid real fast also and my fees are very good. How is it though that people are not interested in salon quality braids and seem to prefer the nappy home options that fuzz over in no time? I am always being asked where I make mine, and even though I tell then I did, it's either they don't believe me, or assume it'll cost a whole lot. It is a good investment though as it saves you a lot of time in the morning and I keep mine for up to 3 months each time. If you know anyone ready to look properly coiffed African braid style, do let me know.I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring braiders?
Congratulations on your move . Hope everything works out for you . Go to ALL shops with a perfect resume ,and this includes pictures . Buy business cards and leave them at bridal shops , or hand them out when your at a restaurant or coffee shop . Braiding is the one art of styling that i couldn't ace . I am so envious , but I sincerely wish you all the best . Don't give up , even if you have to take a job that doesn't involve hair , this way you can get fellow employees and patrons to come to you , even if you got to their house .. Again , God Bless you on your new adventure and many many happy clients to you !!!!!!I am an expert hair braider and just moved to LA. How do I start work as no salons seem to be hiring braiders?
i sure wish u were in wisconsin. my daughter has the worst hair and noone seems to know how to braid hair around here.
ypu could get a permit to open your own business

btw i wish i could braid like you my braiding suks :p
    Flyers and bussiness cards.
The best thing I can tell you is that in many salons they might require a type of license, certificate or degree in the field of cosmetology. It lets them know that you're qualified to work for them. And generally they require that you know more than braiding, but want to know you can do more than one type of hair style. In most salons, people want their hair cut, or styled.

Or, you could even consider opening your own business and start out by making it popular by ';word of mouth';. You advertise, do one persons hair, they're so satisfied they tell a friend, and make it clear you want to be referred if your customers are satisfied...

A lot of hair salons will do basic braiding, but not all are so great at specific types of hair styles. There are different types of hair stylists. Those who work in regular salons, hollywood hair stylists, and those specific hair styles might be more popular in a hollywood setting. If you want to make it up there, check out online (google it) see how you can get where you want to be. ';How do I become a hollywood hair stylist';.

Or, consider what target of people will most likely want the hair styles you have to offer. If you're talented in a specific type, what majority of people usually care for this hair style? Consider the area you're trying to find work in. In Los Angeles for instance, there is a great deal Hispanic/Asian population. Some African American, some European American, (ect). But it varies in different areas.

Sometimes specific hair types work with different styles. I'd love to have simple braids but my hair isn't made for braiding. In fact, it looks like crap. So there are a lot of things you have to consider when you want to apply a talent to a job or future career.

What you should figure out is the best way to apply your talent and turn it into a career, if you wish to make a career out of it. There are A LOT of successful hair stylists working in Hollywood, and other places. I think living in California is the best place to be since fashion and style are most emphasized.

And cosmetics are very popular in America in general. But I think the closer you get to hollywood, the more people might care about cosmetics, fashion, hair styling (et cetera). So you already know you're probably in a good area to get started.

Consider your surroundings. If you want to open a business, you may need a type of degree which isn't too hard to get. You could start out at a regular salon, or do a simple program to get your certificate in cosmetology so you can get a basic job, work on a business certificate or degree and open up your own business. Sometimes people even do it in their own homes as personal hair stylists, and are referred through advertisement or word of mouth by satisfied customers.

There's a lot of ways you can do it. And remember, sometimes it's not always what you know, it's who you know. Do you have connections with hair stylists? I'd look into contacting a few, visiting a few popular salons and even asking around. Though they're probably not used to getting asked questions, but it might help. Look around and ask if different salons have open positions and what the requirements are. There are always job openings.

You can even try job sites and list the specific job you're looking for and set up a resume. The internet is a GREAT tool! Well, good luck!
what you should do if find the studio's out in LA and do hair for the star's if your that good.. Im sure it would make you $$ there and more clients good luck

How are those Mystic Tans, or spray tans at tanning salons?

Do they leave you orange like those lotions? Or do you actually look tan?How are those Mystic Tans, or spray tans at tanning salons?
You gotta get a quality one so you dont end up orange which may be more expensive. STAY OFF THE SUNBEDS either way. id rather be orange or even just stay luminous white rather than get skin cancer or wrinkles etcHow are those Mystic Tans, or spray tans at tanning salons?
If you do it right, you won't look orange or uneven. They recommend that you tan in a regular bed and then do the Mystic. That's the only way I've done it, and I didn't look orange afterwards. Make sure you exfoliate -- especially around your knees, elbows, feet, etc, so you don't get color stuck in there. :)

How bad are tanning salons for you?

If you use them just once in a while (like a couple of times a year) are they still harmful? Someone suggested that I use a tanning salon for a ';base tan'; before going on summer vacation to prevent sunburn.

Thoughts? How bad are tanning salons for you?
tanning beds arent really that bad

studys show that obviously its unhealthy, but its also unhealthy to sit in the sun,

if you go to the right place sometimes the tanning beds will give off Vitamin D which the sun also gives off. But if your going to go in a tanning bed make sure to wear protective sunburn provention lotion with added in tanning seriums to help protect from burns but get a nice tan aswell,

I am alergic to the acrylic powder used at salons. Is there any other acrylic powder out there i can use?

The acrylic powder they use at my salon I believe is a very cheap version that has an ingredient in it that I am allergic to. Has anyone tried any other acrylic powders, maybe a more expensive one, that has worked well for them? Thanks in advanced for your answer. I am alergic to the acrylic powder used at salons. Is there any other acrylic powder out there i can use?
well you can get gel nails done, they are a gel that they put on your nail and they bake it in a uv light and you can get it done is most salons i know its not acrylic nails but there all the same thing xI am alergic to the acrylic powder used at salons. Is there any other acrylic powder out there i can use?
i dont know of any other acrylic powders, but your nail tech would know if they existed.

and yes, gel nails are available. the downside is that they're more expensive, it takes longer to get them done, and they are not as strong as acrylic.

    ask your nail tech
Are you talking about for artificial nails? You can get a different kind of nail done professionally. They are called gel nails... they are a little more expensive but they are actually better for your nail and look better too.

What are some salons in New Jersey that are Locks of Love Participants?

I live around Mt. Laurel in NJ. I have donated my hair 3 times to Locks of Love, and am planning on doing it again. It's not as long this time, but I just get a good feeling whenever I donate in. Anyway, the salon I went to does not participate in Locks of Love anymore and I can not find another. What are some salons in this area that do participate?

What's a good shampoo and conditioner that hair salons use that makes your hair soft?

Please don't tell me to ask my hair salon, because I recently moved so I haven't found a good hair salon yet. I want a shampoo and conditioner that keeps my hair soft even after I blowdry my hair. That's were it tends to start getting really dry even if I have the blowdryer on low. What's a good shampoo and conditioner that hair salons use that makes your hair soft?
Bumble and Bumble has a lot of really nice shampoos and conditioners but that's only avaliable at hair salons. Tr猫semme and Pantene have really nice hydrating shampoos. I've also heard that Aussie has a really good moisturizing one. So try any of those. Another tip to keep your hair from drying out is when you're in the shower try to keep the water as cool as possible, it will give your hair a healthy shine and help it to lock in moisture. Also, when you get out of the shower wrap your hair in a towel right away and let it sit for about 10 minutes. That will help keep your hair soft. What's a good shampoo and conditioner that hair salons use that makes your hair soft?
Well I don't know which products they use in salons but I love Lush products (you can buy them online or in a Lush store). I'd recommend Jungle conditioner, it makes your hair so soft you can't stop touching it! And if you have a bit dry hair like me you can use Rehab shampoo it works very good. But it all depends on what kind of hair you have of course.
any catwalk or bedhead products are always good but a really cheap trick i found is this pantene deep conditioner(it's about $4) that i use everytime i shower in place of conditioner. you just leave it on for like 2 minutes(it says 5 but you don't really need to leave it on for 5 unless your hair is really damaged). here's a link so you can see what it looks like:

    http://www.pantene.com/en-US/product/provnourish_5minstrengthening.jspx

    hope that helps!
try lush products, they're really good, with something to suit every type of hair, i use the shampoo and conditioner bar, it looks like a bar of soap, you rub it round your hair, leaves it really soft!

We went to our regular hairdresser and just told them the info from the website (how long it had to be etc) They gave us the hair and we mailed it. Got an awesome thank you letter. What are some basic hair styling products that salons use?

I have a friend who wants to be a hair-stylist when she's older so I wanted to get her a hair-styling kit for her birthday. But I don't know the first thing about hair styling. I just need to know some basic things that every hair stylist uses.

And some cheap, potent, brand suggestions would be nice. :)What are some basic hair styling products that salons use?

I know of a great, very inexpensive line of professional-quality products. There are products to increase volume, make it straight, or help keep it curly. Each product costs only $5.

Go here and click ';shop now';. Then click on the ';mark.'; section and then ';hair styling';. Avon products have competitive prices, cutting-edge technology, and a money-back guarantee if you're not satisfied with the products.

I want to be a hairstylist too! That will happen next year. I would love to get a white coat with my name embroidered and below ';Professional Hair Designer';.. i think would be cute. But If you want products, the best would be some clips, scissors, a cape and so nice brushes in a basket with some shampoo and conditioner or anti-frizz stuff.. Does not have to be super expensive. Go to Walmart and get any brand that is black color bottle.. so it would look neat. You are a nice friend :)

Are beauty salons a waste of money for men?

I'm a guy with a slight receding hairline on the sides. I go to Supercuts to get my hair cuts. Sometimes it looks really nice and other times they make me look like a chicken who went through a blender. I saw this really nice salon in town and was wondering if it would be worth it to kick out the extra money for a premium cut. Any ideas or thoughts or suggestions? Are beauty salons a waste of money for men?
i dont think its a waste at all.

you get what you pay for, if you want nice looking hair you should be willing to fork out the extra money for it.

    more $$$= better quality

Are beauty salons a waste of money for men?
First off Super cuts have hairstylist who are just starting and are learning how to really cut the hair. That's why sometimes it'll looks like chicken who went through a blender. Your lucky if you leave with a good hair cut. Go for the salon. They would know what to do with your hair. Making an appointment is better. Call and make an appointment for someone who knows how to do a good mens hair cut. If you walk in, they might pass you off to someone who is just starting in that salon. You'll be satisfied when you go.
';you get what you pay for!'; Supercuts are not super!!! Men should definitely go to a salon if it makes them feel good!! How can looking good be a waste of money? Not only that, but having one good stylist that you trust is a great feeling!!! You may even find other things that a finer salon offers that would interest you, eye brow waxing, massage, etc. I happen to love a man who takes care of himself, my man has a shaved head and goatee and he moisturizes daily, he has the softest skin, it's a turn on. Go, go , go!!! You deserve it! :0)))
what i think is... if you have to spend a little more money you MIGHT have a better hair cut! anyway, I always prefer to cut and esp wash my hair in a salon as they always give me a nice hair after that!
    Super cuts BAD!!!!

Go somewhere more in the middle.

What is the peppermint oil in the tanning salons used for?

i went tanning today and noticed in the tanning room i was in, there was a spray bottle with peppermint oil in it. Anybody know what thats for? What is the peppermint oil in the tanning salons used for?
peppermint heals and soothes the skinWhat is the peppermint oil in the tanning salons used for?
i think its to cool you down and stop the burning but i expect i am wrong
It helps if you use that so your skin wont burn and also it helps your tan look so much better, and also it keeps your skin soft and it will help not to dry your skin out while tanning...hope this helps..It works great, i recommend using it everytime
to make you taste like peppermint.
It's because it stinks in there. Seriously...I worked at a tanning salon way back when, and the smell of sweat and tanning lotion combined is a very pungent, very odd odor. Peppermint oil is also antimicrobial, but I'm sure they use something else to clean with.

EDIT: Peppermint oil contains menthol, which is a skin irritant. You shouldn't put it all by itself on any skin, especially inflamed or burned skin. Even when it's added in tiny amounts to skin care products (a dumb idea but they do it anyway since it gives you that tingle) it can be an irritant. The tingle might feel soothing because it's cool, but it's actually just bothering your skin. Try chamomile for soothing your skin.

How long do the spray tans from tanning salons last?

    How long do they last?

How dark can they get you?

    How much do they cost?

Any tips or precautions? How long do the spray tans from tanning salons last?
    How long do they last?

    They usually last 5-7 days.

How dark can they get you?

Depends on how dark you want to be they have different levels to choose from depending on how dark or light you want the tan to be.

    How much do they cost?

Normally around $20-$35 depending on where you go and if the tan specialist sprays it on you or if its a booth.

    Any tips or precautions?

    Before you go:

+ Make sure you exfoliate. Our skin has a build up of dead skin cells on top of it. The thicker the layer, the sooner it will rub off. If you exfoliate, the layer will be very shallow, and it will take a while for it to “build up” making your tan last longer.

+ Don’t wear any deodorant, body sprays, perfume, moisturizer or makeup before the tan. Many deodorants will stop spray tanning solution going through and few moisturizers and makeup products can act as a barrier, not letting the full amount of the solution to attach itself to the skin.

+ Wax or shave your legs before spray tan. If you shave your legs after spray on tan, you will take off some of your tan with the hair.

    After:

+ Don't shower for at least 5-8 hours or it'll come off.

+ Also wait at least 5 hours before exercising or having sex. If you do sweat, your tan will run.

+ With swimming: Wait at least 6 hours. Chlorinated water will bleach your tan really quickly, so I would not advise it. If you want to swim in the sea, make your swims short. The longer you soak yourself, the faster your tan will come off.How long do the spray tans from tanning salons last?
The cost depends on the place you go. Around $20 maybe?

They dont last that long at all. Less than a week. Its really more for if you have an event coming up in my opinion.

You dont get THAT dark. but it gives you some color.

They give you a barrier cream to put on your feet and around your nails. Use alot of this cream on your feet like on your heels because if you dont then they will be blotchy and orange. Sometimes the tan is that even. And you will probably notice when the color starts to fade bc your skin tone will prob not look even.

So pretty much im saying that spray tans are okay. Ive dont it a couple of times but i wouldnt spend the money if i just randomly want to since it doesnt even last that long.

What are the stickers in the tanning salons used for?

I went to a tanning salon and people were getting those differend shaped stickers, I just dont know what is that for? :)

Thank you for your answers! What are the stickers in the tanning salons used for?
They are to stick on your body..after you finish tanning you take it off. The darker you get the more prominent the mark your sticker shows. A playboy bunny, heart etc; And out it in a place no one will see cause that's tacky :o) also every time you tan stick it in the same spot every time so can see how dark you have actually got since you started tanning. PS. I have a heart :o)What are the stickers in the tanning salons used for?
some people just like to have them. like some get play boy bunnies, and when u tan, that spot will be white, kinda sorta like a tatto, only less pain, and no ink, and it can fade, some just do it to see their progress on tanning.
you put it on, and then you go tanning, and say you picked a heart sticker and put it on your stomach? You have a light-colored heart and tan skin! Kind of like a tatoo, but it goes away.
you put them on you so when you tan you will have a white patch where the sticker was. Its a lot corny if you ask me.
hah my friend had a playboy bunny once n thenshe put it on while she was tanning and the tanning made it take the shape and now its li ke a blank tatoo lmoa its real cool to bad i dont tan though
You put in on your skin, use the tanning bed and when done you take the sticker off and the skin is still white underneath. Kind of like a tatoo, but it is just untanned skin.
The stickers are so you can see how tan you are getting when you compare your uncovered skin with the skin under the sticker.
The stickers are used to see how much of a tan you received. If you go often and put the sticker in the same place every time you can see how dark you are now and how light you were to start with.
you put them on whereever you want on your body and then tan. After you're done, you peel it off and leaves the shape of whatever sticker you put on.

  • What shampoo do they use most in salons?

I notice everytime I get my hair cut my hair's texture is so soft smooth and manageable. I can tell the difference even when it's wet. Usually when I wash my hair at home it will dry quickly and frizz out and when they wash it it seems it stays wet much longer and when it dries it's much softer. When I try to wash my hair with store bought shampoo I can never duplicate the results. It always works this way when a salon washes my hair. Even at the lower end salons. I know that cutting it adds to the reason my hair feels healthier but I can tell the difference even before and durring it is cut. Anyone have any idea? What shampoo do they use most in salons?
it used to be Paul Mitchell, but now we use alot more ';Bed Head'; and ';Dumb Blond';. bec. its easier on all type of hair..the less alcohol in shampoo the better. Paul Mitchell product uses a little too much alcohol, although it smells really nice, it drys your hair like crazy. What shampoo do they use most in salons?
Just run in to any salon and ask the stylist! They will be happy to sell you whatever they have and it's not always that expensive.

The only thing is that your hair is always smoother at the salon becuase of the way the stylist handles it. Standing away from the hair and pulling it out from the head gives you a smoother cuticle than when you do it yourself.
Paul Mitchell or Biolage, I think.

Who is responsible for overlooking nail salons to make sure they are safe for the public?

Stateboard there is a huge complaint process and they slap a fine and that is it. So as of now, it is nobody's job to regulate this problem as far as i know. I am in NJ. Do you know?Who is responsible for overlooking nail salons to make sure they are safe for the public?
I am fairly sure the health department is in charge of that, also, most manicurists have to get a license. If they have the license they are properly trained and will [probably] take proper care of their tools. Nail salons can be a scary thing because you don't know. Before you get your nails done, go in and request to use the restroom, doing this will give you a look at the salon allowing you to judge if it is sanitary. Remember, cheaper isn't always better.

Sorry I wasn't much help :)Who is responsible for overlooking nail salons to make sure they are safe for the public?
I think that it's still up to Stateboard. Once a salon is fined, they're SUPPOSED to go back and check to see if they've made any improvements. If not, they get shut down.

I think if the salon was somehow spreading AIDS or some other horrible infection, the Health Department would come in.

The system is pretty crappy though. I'm in California and the nail salons here are disgusting, which is why I just rent a space and work on my own. Some of these people don't even bother disinfecting their tools. How can Stateboard catch that??
I think that falls under the health department

most of the time nail salons do nails about the same quality.... some are a little better than others but its not a BIG difference.... most of the time the big difference is the price.... but dont worry, get your nails done from where ever you want... it doesnt hurt to try something new
Sometimes they have different color acrylic.... That would be one of the problems. But if your happy with your nail salon now why change?

I have been asked to research why 70% of people who go to a hair salon for the first time never return. What reasons have you had to not return to a salon and day spa? What reasons do you think are the main factor? What are some reasons that people do not return to hair salons?
    wow there is many lol

    -It is too expensive

-They did not like their cut/color

-When it's your first time at a saloon they are really nice, once your their all the time your like whatever.

-They interogate you with too many questions, while they do your hair.

    - Their rough on your hair, as in brushing it

    - They might of found a cheaper place

    - Or their on the phone too long (this happened to me, my hairstylist was on her bluetooth almost the whole time speaking in some diferent language, she did an ok job, but never would go back.)What are some reasons that people do not return to hair salons?
I will tell you why I won't return to the last Salon I went to. They

gave me a new inexperienced girl. I got a hair cut and highlights. They don't cut the hair till the rest is done. The girl

ruined my hair. The owner kept bragging about how good they were, and started doing my hair herself. By now I had been there 4 hours. It was closing time and I looked horrible. My hair was bleached white and still uncut. They told me I had to come back the next day to finish it. I did go back. It took another 2 hours and I can honestly say it was the worst experience I have ever had at a salon. The owner also lied about the price she would charge me. It cost me $7.00 more and it wasn't worth $7.00 for the entire thing. What a nightmare!!
    Bad service

Hair style was not done correctly

Use of bad techniques and chemicals that can damage hair

    Uncomfortable atmosphere

    Workers' personality(loud or obnoxious)

    Cheap equipment(dryers etc.)
most people probably cant afford a big salon cut%26amp;color regularly. it might have been a gift card or tax rebates.
Because they do bad work !!
usually it's because they do what they want, not what i ask for, i have extremely fine hair, stylists always think its a good idea to layer it, IT';S NOT A GOOD IDEA AT ALL, but they do it anyways. also i've switched salons because i moved, and also because my stylist left, once it was because they burned my skin when they were waxing my brows and cut my hair waaay shorter than i asked (and included layers), and sometimes a stylist just gives you a bad cut point blank
    I think its obvious...

Becuase they didnt get enough service for their money.
I personally think it is convenience. The right time right place type thing. There are so many walk in salons and these may benefit most from peoples hectic schedules these days.

Another reason might be cost. Too high of prices.

The most obvious reason would be unsatisfied with the service performed.
well i'm never going back to the last stylist i went to!! for starters they cut about 2 inches more than i asked for!! did a CRAP job of styling and then blow dryed it... but it wasnt even straight!!! all for about 鈧?0 / $ 75!! quite simply they robbed me of my money!!!
    because the stylists suck
Probably the two main reasons are: the patron didn't like the work the sylist did, or the patron didn't ';click'; with the stylist, even though the work was fine. By ';clicking'; I mean liking or at least tolerating the stylist's personality, or approach to business. I don't like stylists who push products on me.
reasons i dont return to a hair salon is because they overcharge, the service isn't good, the stylist is too pushy.

reasons for nail salons.. they're ALWAYS pushy, they don't sanitize their products properly, they hurt my cuticles.

Well, for me it's usually if the hairdresser is too pushy with what SHE thinks I should get done. I like when they give their opinions, but I've had hairdressers who have done things I've asked them NOT to do, because they thought it would look better!! I can't stand that!
if i can do my OWN hair at home then why not??

it is MUCH cheaper and then i know exactly what im getting..

i know that alot of salons dont do peoples hair the way they wanted...

i do my own hair..not only is it cheaper its fun
normally i dont return to a salon if the service was poor (ex. cut my hair wrong, wrong color) also i dont go back if the place isnt well kept

What do people do with the conditioner or shampoo testers in salons and stores?

I mean its not like you can actually use it or anything then and there but when I look at the bottles they're always around empty? So, does anybody know? What do people do with the conditioner or shampoo testers in salons and stores?
it's only the more successful salons who employ shampoo testers. but if i was you, i'd get off my lazy a-- and do some testing at home yourself. and speaking of testing, inglewood city schools did an exhaustive sutdy years ago regarding people and their shampoo habits. seems of all the tests people failed, the shampoo ones were at the top of the list. message to be learned here: keep your hairdresser close, and your shampoo closer. What do people do with the conditioner or shampoo testers in salons and stores?
just ask the salon that your at what they do with it.
You could smell them and feel the texture in your hands.
Smell them by rubbing on your wrist? I've never done it.

How to get a really good tan without using products or salons?

Okay so only my arms and legs are tan and my face is completely pale. So it look really weird and I really need help with this. I don't want to buy any products or go to a tanning salon. I just need some tips on what to do !! Help!!How to get a really good tan without using products or salons?
I am really really pale too, so I have had this problem before. What I do is I put on like spf 15 sunscreen (really light) when I am just sitting outside, so I don't get fried, but I get a little tan. Because when you put on spf 30, it will be too much protection and you don't get tan at all. Hope this helps!!How to get a really good tan without using products or salons?
get a lotion called jergens tanning lotion. or you can use tanning spray.

Can a nail salon mess up or make your fill in turn out JUST OK? Do other nail salons do it better?

OR is a fill in just a fill in and theres nothing to it? I want to get my nails done somewhere else, but I am not sure if thy will do it as good as my normal nail salon. Thanks! Can a nail salon mess up or make your fill in turn out JUST OK? Do other nail salons do it better?
You can go to a different salon for you fill in, but keep in mind that they might use a different powder. Your nails might be two different shades. There is no way to know what nail salon does nails better until you actually get them done there. Trial and error. Can a nail salon mess up or make your fill in turn out JUST OK? Do other nail salons do it better?
OMG i had the worst fill done at some place i had never gone to before...i alwasy go to the same place but i really needed a fill because i had to go to a wedding...well they left my nails looking worse...seriously stick with your normal place...
    go 2 Rsalon
most of the time nail salons do nails about the same quality.... some are a little better than others but its not a BIG difference.... most of the time the big difference is the price.... but dont worry, get your nails done from where ever you want... it doesnt hurt to try something new
Sometimes they have different color acrylic.... That would be one of the problems. But if your happy with your nail salon now why change?
    what?

whatever you mean just go try somewhere else.

How do I find great salons in my area?

I want to get my hair cut/styled for highschool and I've already been to a bunch of different places (not high end ones, ones like first choice, great clips, etc etc.) Other than the Yellow Strawberry I don't know how I can just find a brand new salon that cuts hair REALLY well. Nothing THAT expensive...

Anyways. Any ideas how I can find good salons in my area? Tyvm. How do I find great salons in my area?

word of mouth..... if you see someone who's hair you like ask them where they have their hair done and by who
I have found that you can get a $10 cut for 50 and a $50 cut for 10

It really depends on the stylist there are very good stylists that work at places like great clips and bad stylist that work at high end shops.

    Ask around...see someone with a great cut and ask ';I love your hair, who is your stylist.';

  • How much do they charge you for a minute in tanning salons?

How much time do I have to stay at the first time? How many times do I have to go in a week/month? And how much does it cost? How much do they charge you for a minute in tanning salons?
Salons have different packages you can buy like 5 tans for $20 or you can pay $25 a month and have unlimited tanning.

They don't charge by the minute, but by the session. It also depends on your skin tone the time you go in. If you are pale I would suggest not going over 10 minutes. You need to do that in order to develop your base tan.

Be sure to buy lotion because it helps you tan faster and blocks some of the UV rays that may burn you.How much do they charge you for a minute in tanning salons?
I haven't been to a place where they charge by the min, usually I get consulted first by the staff and go in sessions, and keep coming to get the desired tan.
I don't know the answer to any of your questions, but I can tell you this though, they use microwaves, which cooks you from the inside. It also kills the nerves in the top layers of your skin. It gives you skin tough as leather with not feelings, not to say the least of the cancer cells it is feeding. In other words it gives you cancer of the skin.

I hope I answered your questions.

What is the difference between acrylic and fiberglass nails at salons?

When getting sculptured nails, what is the difference between acrylic and fiberglass, which one is better and why? What is the difference between acrylic and fiberglass nails at salons?
Fiberglass nail wraps are good for people with weak, soft, ot bitten nails. However, they are not as strong as acrylic nails, and are not a good choice for people who use their hands a lot as they will easily break apart on this type of person. They are also requested by people who are allergic to acrylic nails, or those who have a fear of acrylics ruining their nails. But overall, acrylic is definitely stronger, and more durable than fiberglass nail wraps will ever be. The one and only reason that they are often more expensive than acrylic nails is because they take so long to apply. It can take several hours to wrap the nails on both hands. Acrylic can be applied in an hour or so. Thus, the price difference that you will sometimes see but that is not always the case. And if they are more expensive, the difference is quite a small sum.

I hope this helpsWhat is the difference between acrylic and fiberglass nails at salons?
I didn't mean that fiberglass nails were bad for everyone, and I'm glad they are working out well for you. It sounds like you made a good choice :-) Report Abuse

i think fiberglass are slightly better for your nails as they allow the nail to breathe which makes them less brittle when you eventually have them removed
The difference between Acrylic %26amp; Fibreglass is basically the strength. Fibreglass is much stronger than Acrylic, and is less prone to cracks and breaks... That is why Fibreglass is generally more expensive.

If you have a small nailbed, you are better getting Fibreglass, however it is entirely up to you. Ask your nail lady if you have any queries!

Where can I find salons that do Japanese Hair straightening but still at a good preice?

I have short frizzy hair which goes to my shoulder and I want to get is permantly straighted but I don't know any salons in Las Vegas that do the treatment or how much it cost. I need a list of salons that do the straightening in Las Vegas.Where can I find salons that do Japanese Hair straightening but still at a good preice?
Most every salon (especially in Las Vegas) should have a straightening/relaxing treatment available. Your going to need to check your local phonebook and call salons for pricings. If your willing, you could also relax your hair by yourself - it's much cheaper and pretty much the same concept. At home relaxors are available at Ulta, Walgreens, Target, ect. You'll just need to fallow the directions listed on the box. It also helps if you use products to keep your hair straight; most any brand will work - however, Aveda's 'Hang Straight' will protect well from humidity.

How much do salons mark up retail products?

My best friend works in a salon that sells 2 different lines of hair products. She said the owner charges double what she pays for them and does a pretty good retail business. Is this amount Standard for marking up hair products for retail? How much do salons mark up retail products?
Yes, retail hair products are usually marked up 50-75% of what a licensed cosmetologist can purchase them for.How much do salons mark up retail products?
No, especially if it's a boutique item you can mark the products up as high as 200%, gold and diamonds are marked up as high as 2000%. Unless the product is commonly sold everywhere then you need to stay with the suggested retail price, but if it's a specialty item you can be an exclusive retailer of the product and sell it for the retail price that fits your clientele and demographics area.
Hi I had same yahoo query like yours . I got one of the best answer by searching at below site.
    maybe 30% mark up

try yellow book. if your hair is already damaged from irons there is no telling if you can do the '; Japanese straightening';........not everyone here is from your area. therefore you need to call around for prices and may even take up the opportunity for a free consultation to determine if the chemical procedure is possible on your hair. What are some the names and addresses of hair salons that do Japanese straightening?

What makes the salons better to have hair dyed?

I've read it is much safer to go to the salon to go from brown to blonde, but what do they use to bleach and dye the hair that is better then the pre-boxed stuff? Couldn't I just buy the products they use and do it myself or is this something only the salons can buy? What makes the salons better to have hair dyed?
actually, my. mom owns her own hair salon shop. I know all about this. even though it may be way cheaper to go to the store and buy it, I would seriously recomend going to the salon. you are looking at something so dramatic as to brown to blonde. you don't want to do it on your own and you don't want somebody else who has no expierence doing it to do YOUR hair. you have to know to properly add it I saw some pretty ****** up hair that they did on their own. it looks so trashy. another reason is because salon dye is more chemicly advanced, the salon dude will have to see how thin and dark and how damaged the hair is in order to determine how much bleach should be used.

yes, although it may be expensive, the salon would sooo help with the beautiful natural look instead of the cheap dye. What makes the salons better to have hair dyed?
salons are professional hairstylist people. professional hairstylist wouldnt ruin/damage your hair. anyways, bleaching your hair is already damaging your hair. i suggest going to a salon but seems you cant afford it just go and buy the products yourself, make sure you know what you're doing (if there are instructions) or get someone who knows how to do it or done it before.
Yes,you can bye it yourself but make sure you have someone who knows how to do it !

  • What are the main differences between inexpensive and expensive salons?

Generally speaking, is the main difference in the training of the hairstylists and/or the quality of the scissors they use?

For instance, I've been getting my hair cut at Super Cuts and have pretty content. Twice, I ventured into one of those expensive salons and although it seems like they spend a bit more time on my hair, I don't see any real difference. I wonder if there's a difference I can't figure out and if it's worth the price difference.

Thanks. What are the main differences between inexpensive and expensive salons?
Really an expensive salon can only come w/ reputation. The reputation of the stylists, products, service, and most importantly the stylist.

The inexpensive shops is where the stylist go to gain a reputation to either open their own expensive salons or work at them. What are the main differences between inexpensive and expensive salons?
the quality of products, the sharper the scissors, the teqniques and the service are the main qualitys to look for oh and the most important timing

Do some salons donate the money they get for highlights to certain causes?

I've heard that when a person pays for a single piece of hair to be dyed a specific color, the salon will donate the money they receive to a certain cause or charity. For instance, the cost to dye one red strand would be donated to fighting AIDS; the cost to dye one blue strand would be donated to stopping child abuse. Is this true (for some salons, if not all)? If so, which colors represent which causes?Do some salons donate the money they get for highlights to certain causes?
I have never heard of that...you could try google.com.

The only thing I have heard of is where you get alot of hair cut and you can donate it to locks of love and they make wigs for kids with cancerDo some salons donate the money they get for highlights to certain causes?
i have never heard of donating money for highlighting

but i have heard of donating cut hair, iv been asked before iv been cut, if its ok that they use my trimings for donations, i give them ok and sign the release form and my left over cuts are donated. of course, it has to be 100% natural, and not-dyed, and the length requirements vary place to place. i donated 6-7 inchs. but i was planing on changing hair styles anyways, so it was a win win
    no i dont think so
    Never heard of that.

What is the legal age to use sunbed salons?

And what do you do when you get there, just take off your clothes and get in?What is the legal age to use sunbed salons?
Legal age? I believe it is 16.

Whether or not you go nude, or with underwear is a personal preference.

They do thoroughly clean the beds (but you can clean them off before you get in if you have any doubts- you'll usually find the cleaner in the room) so, going nude is most people's preference- tan lines you know.

Be careful! Do purchase a good lotion at the tanning salon (they are pricey) and than a GREAT lotion for outdoor activity. If you are going to a tanning bed- there is no reason to seek rays from the sun, purchase a block with 30SPF and use it religiously! What is the legal age to use sunbed salons?
Depending where u live, but 18 or parents consent in U.S. The people there show u what button to push to start it and towel and u decide if u go nude, underwear or bathing suit.....it's up to u. Also some places ask to see your eye protection, it's fun.
Alot of sunbed salons don't let under 16's in. Don't know about the other question as I have never been as I don't want skin cancer.
    16
    16 in uk!

you can go fully naked if you want! some ppl keep on their underwear but then you get lines.

How did salons contribute towards the French Revolution?

I am writing a Historical Investigation on how the role of salons were significant to the French Revolution and i need some help finding some trusted sites for background information and if possible could someone provide me with the sites and also summarize what happened? I am a little confused as to how it all connects together. Thanks. How did salons contribute towards the French Revolution?
Well, salons were normally hosted by cultured intellectual ladies who enouraged all sorts of philosophers, writers, etc, to mingle and discuss their new ideas. so that way some of the ideas of enlightenment philosophers, like Voltaire, Monatsqeue, rousseau etc would be spread about. And the ideas of these philosophers did influence the leaders of the French Revolution.

  • What are the different services offered at nail salons?

I know about your standard manicure, pedicure, fills, acrylics. But what are gels, and the different types of wraps, and anything else that can be done to your nails? What are the different services offered at nail salons?
    Hi there

Gel is still acrylic, but is applied in a slightly different way. Acrylic L%26amp;P hardens as it is applied. Gel needs to be 'cured' under a UV lamp to harden it but essentially they are the same thing.

Wraps are acrylic silk wraps where they prepare your nail and apply a small piece of silk wrap directly to your nail then apply acrylic over the top. This isn't a common way to do acrylic anymore although I believe there are still Nail Techs who offer this service.

Minx Nail Armour is a fantastic way to glam up your nails but is relatively new and I think I am the only person in my town who offers these. They have been worn by Beyonce and the like and come in a range of patterns and colors.

Minx is a type of foil covering which is applied directly to either your natural nail, or enhancements if you have them, then warmed up under a heat lamp to make them stay. They can last for weeks but last longer on toes.

You can have your nails piereced too, although I don't do this as it's not commonly asked for.

How do hair stylists at chain salons get paid?

I ask this question because my hair stylist is constantly complaining about receiving small tips from customers. Each customer pays $75 on average for her services and usually tips about $5-$8. What portion of this money goes to her?How do hair stylists at chain salons get paid?
    depending on the chain.

Most pay Min wage or 45% which ever is greater over a two week period. So on 75 she is seeing around 33 dollars then her tax is out of that. So lets say she is doing 5 people a day at 75, she brings in 375 a day but her share is 168.75. Not bad if her days are always like that. she take home for that day is around 126.

As a stylist myself I feel it is wrong to ever comment to a customer about your tips, they are not required nor does everyone have the money to give one.How do hair stylists at chain salons get paid?
some just get paid commission plus tips it just depends on where they work
Probably about 10% of the total. I worked at Smartstyle in Walmart for a while, and we got 10% of each sale, tips, and a small hourly wage of $3.15per hour. So pretty much, tips are what you depend on.
