How do i go from black hair to chocolate brown without hair salons?

Ive been dying my hair black for 5 years now and i want to go to chocolate brown..ive tried pre lightners before but the top half went ginger and the rest wouldnt take even though i had it on for a long time. In the end i went black again. I really cant afford to go to a salon to get it done as i have a new born baby and she takes up all of my money!

Thanks xHow do i go from black hair to chocolate brown without hair salons?
Hi

Speaking from experience if your hair is dyed black you cannot go to chocolate brown without the help of the salon. I dyed my hair black a few years ago and attempted to put a auburn dye over it which left me with red roots and black ends!! I was totally unaware that dying your hair black was irreversible if doing it yourself.

The salon uses a very harsh chemical to strip your hair of any colour and then dye over it. Be warned though this does leave your hair very dry for a long time. Which was why I didn't try this option.

The only option if you have minimal money is unfortunately letting it grow out. If your natural colour is light try a semi permanent dark brown over it to hide the roots (semi will eventually fade out). Or what I did was have copper highlights put down my parting to cover the roots as it grew out (this still cost me 拢50 though!).

If your desperate shop around for the best price to strip the colour. How do i go from black hair to chocolate brown without hair salons?
are salons really expensive in your area?

i would rather you go to a salon because they know how much dye you need to turn your color to a certain shade.

by testing with various products, you are not only damaging your hair but also wasting money testing the products.

but if you insist on home dye. i suggest choose maybe a shade or two lighter than your desired color? because your hair is currently black so its harder for them to show the dye.
You will have to bleach first because color cannot lift color. Bleach kit with a 20 or 30 volume developer. Get an ash tone (cool) dye in the color of brown that you want. This is actually easy! Bleach, shampoo that out, then tone the same way. The ash will give you the brown that you want and will tone out the orange that pops up when you bleach.
try a color remover, my favorite is Oops (EXTRA STRENGTH).

if that doesn't lighten it enough, then bleach it, it might going orange, but its alright because your going to put the other color on top of it.
Put some chocolate in the Microwave for 2 mins

When it's done, Pour it on your head
